DOCTRINAL BASIS

Statement of Faith

In briefer form and among other equally biblical truths, we believe and maintain the following:

Doctrinal basis

Scriptures

The doctrinal basis of the Seminary are: first, the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament as the Word of God, inspired of God and infallible, the supreme authority in faith and life, and second, subordinate to the Word of God

Doctrinal basis

Westminster Confession of Faith

The Westminster Confession of Faith and the Catechisms as setting forth the system of doctrine taught in the Bible. All members of the Board and Faculty are to be in agreement with the doctrinal basis.

God

Eternal, sovereign, triune, ever-living God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit – the Creator and Sustainer of all things.

Jesus Christ

The essential, absolute, eternal deity and the real and proper, but sinless, humanity of our Lord Jesus Christ; His birth of the virgin Mary; his death, in that He gave His life “a ransom for many”; His resurrection from the dead; His ascension to the right hand of God in heaven; His headship of His body, the Church: and His coming again in power and great glory.

Holy Spirit

The ministry of the Holy Spirit to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ, to regenerate elect sinners, to indwell, guide, teach and empower the believer for godly living and service, and to illuminate his mind to understand the Scriptures.

Creation

The creation of man by God in His own image and likeness, but subsequently the total depravity, guilt and bondage of man through the fall.

Salvation

Salvation, the effect of regeneration by the Spirit and the Word, not by works, but by grace through repentance and faith on the basis of Christ’s atoning work.

The Church

The Church as Christ’s body, its witness in the world, and the real spiritual unity in Christ of all redeemed by His precious blood.

Final judgment

The final judgment of Christ, and the subsequent everlasting happiness of the saved and the everlasting suffering of the lost.

Purity of the Church

The necessity of maintaining, according to the Word of God, the purity of the Church in doctrine and life by the preaching of the Word, administration of the sacraments, and the maintenance of discipline.
